Tea table in process

The host family found this really nice slab of machiche wood and asked me to make a tea table from it. It’s my first time handling a slab of wood this big, and yes the thing is heavy… I first went over the design with the family, after finalizing on the finish and legs I got to work. Being a slab that got such vibrant colors right off the bat, I just went with clear shellac for finish. Since the slab came pre planed and sanded from the mill, that saved me a lot of work. But I still have to take off the barks and side and add a chamfer on the ends to match. As for the gap towards the middle, I opted to make bowties to secure them from underneath. I also added a smaller bowtie on the small crack towards one of the slab, only this time I had it on top for that extra bit of aesthetics. Then it was just tons of sanding, then coats of shellac, and more sanding… Took me in total about a week to finish this table, but really like how it turned out.
