Dining room shelves
During last fall, I installed 4 shelves in the dining room to serve as a place for the alcohol, the family loved it ever since. The minimal appearance and the finish were just perfect for that place. I was given another request to expand the shelves across the rest of the walls in the dining room. One serving as a bookshelf, another for decorative stuff. Those two walls were extremely empty to begin with, I long suggested to hang a painting up somewhere to add colors to the room. So I incorporated that to the layout this time, also adding a few recessed lights to enhance the illumination effect.
Installing the shelves was a breeze, with the help of a laser level, everything lined up perfectly. The poplar boards were sanded and finished in the school fab lab with those big toys, gotta give credit to them for the fine finish. Drilling drywall is always a mess, not a fan of it… When it comes to wiring those new recessed lights, I was lucky enough to find an additional wire breaking off from the same circuit as the 3 existing cans. Cramming 5 12/2 Romex in a deep 2 gang box was not easy, but it worked out in the end.
With a dimmer switch installed, the final result just looks beautiful.
